The Challenge

In 2022 Imtech Engineering Services Ltd requested an assessment for a boiler plant room refurbishment, at Hastings Conquest Hospital, to consider compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR), incorporating Amendment 1: June 2015.

As part of this we were requested to review controls around flammable gases, fuels and flammable liquids in the plant.

The Solution provided

A key focus of the survey was to review the provision and suitability of ventilation and ignition controls across the various plant operations and to identify where improvements were required.

Certain areas of the project required additional controls adding and this was identified.

The report provided a clear to follow action plan with suggested actions to achieve full DSEAR compliance. Importantly the report covers all key parts of the DSEAR hierarchy of controls: reduction of quantities, minimisation of release, minimisation of hazardous areas through ventilation, minimisation of ignition sources, etc.
