The challenge
A visit was made to Cornelius Group PLC at Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, in September 2017 to consider compliance in respect of the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR).
The site provides warehousing and distribution, within the group and also to customers, and parts of the operation require adherence to ADR/Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations. The DSEAR focus was primarily upon arrangements for the safe storage of flammable substances.
The solution provided
Based on survey observations, site operations routinely involve limited quantities of hazardous substances as defined under DSEAR.
Reviewing the inventory listing, storage and handling improvements were suggested for different classes of hazardous substances under the UN classification. Hazardous Area Classification was performed for the highest risk areas where flammable substances were required to be stored, along with suggestions for improvements in ventilation.
