The challenge
Bailey Trailers of Sleaford manufactures market leading agricultural trailers and towed equipment. In September 2017 their insurers identified requirements for DSEAR assessment, primarily around their paint spraying operations, which were in use frequently and utilised flammable paints and thinners.
The Solution Provided
The DSEAR risk assessment also identified bulk fuel storage and flammable and compressed gases as use in fabrication processes. Reviewing the spray-booths, recommendations were made around storage, handling and mixing, plus ventilation, earthing and equipment to ensure the requirements of DSEAR, and the C-type standard BS EN 12215 were complied with. The particulate producing spray and fabrication operations were also reviewed against COSHH ventilation requirements and the site’s local authority PPC licence.
Additionally, assistance was provided for the relocation of the flammable liquids to a dedicated external store.
