An explosion at a brewery in Cumbria, England left one person with severe injuries on 13 May. The incident happened at the Tractor Shed Brewery in the town of Workington where nearby roads were closed and locals were told to avoid the area following the blast.
Emergency services, including four fire engines, attended the scene after reports of an explosion at around 14:50 local time. The North West Ambulance Service later said that an individual was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
In a social media, Tractor Shed Brewing said it had been a deeply distressing day for the company and that one of its employees was badly injured. Cumbria Police and the HSE have opened an investigation into the blast. Fire officials said that the building had suffered serious damage from the explosion.
In a follow-up statement on 20 May, Tractor Shed Brewing said: “This last week has been the hardest week. Since the explosion in the brewery on Monday our colleague Leigh has been in hospital with severe burns. He is stable and fighting hard. All of our thoughts are with Leigh and his family. We ask that you give them the space they need at this time.”
