One person was injured after a fire caused a series of explosions at a chemical plant in Flintshire, north Wales on 30 April. The incident happened at a facility operated by chemicals manufacturer Synthite in the town of Mold.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to a fire at around 14:05 local time after locals reported flames and loud bangs. One person was taken to hospital for treatment while 20 others were evacuated from the plant.

The incident resulted in a multi-agency response with fire crews, police, ambulances, and Natural Resources Wales attending the scene.

In a statement, Synthite said that the fire was contained to a production area at the facility which was adjacent to a storage area. No chemicals were released during or after the incident, the company added.

Firefighters battled the blaze throughout the night and remained at the scene on 1 May, recommending that locals keep doors and windows closed. The HSE was informed of the incident and said it was making inquiries. North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are assisting the HSE with their investigation.
