BAE Systems has said it is investigating an explosion that happened at its site in Monmouthshire, south Wales on 17 April. The blast happened at the company’s Glascoed munitions manufacturing plant where around 550 people work.
In a statement, BAE Systems said that it enacted its safety protocols immediately following the explosion at 10:49 local time. Emergency services attended the scene and the Health & Safety Executive was informed.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident and no risk to local residents. Production was not impacted, BAE added.
Both the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they had attended the site, although nobody required treatment.
