Man killed after explosion at oil pumping station

A 71-year old man was killed after an explosion at an oil pumping station in Michigan, US on 5 February. The incident happened at around 15:50 local time at a site owned by Trak Oil Company in Port Huron.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the Penn Township Fire Department was called to the scene of an explosion at a petroleum pumping station shortly before 16:00. Emergency services had been called after residents reported hearing a loud explosion that shook nearby homes.

Officials said that early investigations show two men had been working on an oil tank when it exploded and caused a fire. One of the men 71-year old Charles Lawrence was confirmed to have died at the scene. The second man, 38-year old Kevin Lawrence, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police said the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
