We get to see many different DSEAR reports produced by a wide range of DSEAR consultants across the UK. Some of these are very well constructed, others not so well, and occasionally some are next to useless.
Clearly, within some businesses, the need for very technical reports is a must; particularly those undertaking complex and high risks operations. In these businesses the finer detail is vitally important and this leads to the requirement for very detailed and complex reporting.
For many businesses though, such levels of technical details are unlikely to be understood and when this is the case key points of the report are then missed. This can often be critical to the business as this may then lead to improvement actions not being completed.
We find that the majority of businesses that we have worked with have appreciated a much simpler, uncomplicated and easy to follow reports. The key requirements are to simply identify what the risks are, what they need to do to minimise these risks and what that means in terms of compliance with DSEAR. Additionally any hazardous zoning requirements need to be clearly identified.
