The Challenge
The site at Middleton processes large volumes of IPA and Ethanol over the period of a year; this is used in the preparation of industrial and hygienic wipes.
Production across the site can be in both open plant areas and in discrete operational areas; bulk materials are stored in a separate warehouse at the site.
The Solution provided
A detailed survey and assessment was undertaken to determine the risks of a flammable atmosphere developing and whether sufficient controls existed to prevent an explosion or fire at the site.
Each process and storage area was analysed to determine what improvements could be made and to identify to what extent flammable zoning requirements should be introduced. The report to management provided clear guidance on where and how realistic improvements could be achieved to improve safety on-site and limit the need for hazardous zoning to a small number of areas.
