The challenge
The Graphic Packaging operation based in Bristol had identified the need to undertake a DSEAR assessment after a corporate audit was completed. The action was raised as the operations on site involved two areas of concern that which were identified as:
- The storage and use of Isopropyl Alcohol;
- Paper dust in the dust handling system.
The solution
A detailed review of the site operations in respect to areas where an explosive atmosphere could develop was completed in a timely manner in order for the corporate improvement action to be satisfactorily closed out. Practical advice was provided to management in order for additional risk controls to be developed and implemented. Part of the assessment included completing area zoning around the key process areas.
