One person died and three others were injured on July 22 after an explosion occurred in a chemical lab near Montreal, Canada. The incident happened at a research centre in the Montreal suburb of Dorval at around 11:30 local time.

Emergency services were called to the scene where one person was pronounced dead. Three people were injured in the explosion with two of them being rushed to hospital. All three are expected to make a full recovery.

The company which owns the chemical lab, Polymer Source, conducts research into polymers and biopolymers. A statement on the company website said the lab would remain closed until late August. Quebec’s safety board, the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST), attended the scene and ordered a stop to all chemical processes. Inspectors said an investigation would take place to determine the cause of the explosion.
